This actually leaves the door open for the person to give your name to more than one potential client, and doesn’t ask them to infringe on anyone’s privacy.

Find a job for yourself! There are all sorts of places that you can find a job. Even freelancers can sometimes find opportunities within the employment listings. If you find something that matches your skills, you may be able to persuade them that they could use a freelancer instead of an employee. Freelancers are cheaper, don’t require work space in house, and are a great way for companies to get the job done without having to pay benefits, etc. So start applying for jobs and selling people on the idea of hiring you freelance instead of as a regular employee.

Don’t under-price yourself. You may be tempted to start out with low prices so you can compete with more experienced freelancers. You may plan to start charging more in the future, but this will prove to be very difficult. Additionally, if you price your rates too low, people will think that your quality is low as well. So avoid the temptation to start out with prices that are too low. You’ll be glad you made this choice in the future.

Freelancers must be ambitious and persistent when it comes to locating clients. Don’t feel that you have to start out with a Rolodex full of clients eager to hire you.
